Condition : Original hand coloured lithograph printed on crème wove paper without text on the verso. Good impression, with wide margins : 365 x 550 mm.
Mark of vertical fold, upper edge a little bit trimmed. Very good condition in bright original colours.
The print shows the procession of the General Command, the Pharmacist and Prince Lancelot moving into the Pairs Chamber (House of Lords). Chez Aubert, galerie véro dodat. L. de Becquet, rue Furstemberg N°6.
Rare lithograph by Daumier published in the journal " La Caricature" in 1833, plate # 299/300.
Proof on blanc paper, in original colours and heightened with gum arabic. The plate features General and Marshall of France (Georges Mouton de Lobau), marching in a cortege announced by a drummer and followed by subordinates carrying the insignia of the apothecary guild.
LOBAU, Georges Mouton, Conte de (1770-1838) participated in the Napoleonic Wars as a General. He was peered in 1809 after the battle of Essling, and after a short period as prisoner in England he returned to France in 1818. He was a politician and from 1828 to 1833 Deputy and served as General of the National Guard from 1830 on. In May 1831, he dispersed a Bonapartist manifestation on Place Vendôme by using water hoses from the fire fighters. For this reason he was nicknamed “Prince de tricanule” and “Seringot”.
