Color : In original colors.
Size : 120 x 197 mm.
Condition : In good condition, old repairs to a tear to a fold, stuck on to lighter coloured paper, then placed in an old mount - with some age toning and minor stains etc.
A delightful small engraving of the lively Paris Carnival, seen travelling down the Boulevard des Italiens. Traditionally, the carnival begins the day after Epiphany, or the 7th of January, and lasts until Lent. Dances, feasts, and marriages are mainly held during carnival.
This particular engraving shows men on stilts, a horse drawn carriage with a clown, a native Indian man from 'the new world', a dancing bear, a man 'riding' a horse, a physician trying to thrust a clyster into a poor unsuspecting patient, a jester, a very small person, and a man blowing a trumpet.

- Charmante petite gravure du carnaval de Paris animé, vue sur le boulevard des Italiens. Traditionnellement, le carnaval commence le lendemain de l'Épiphanie, ou le 7 janvier, et dure jusqu'au Carême. Les danses, les fêtes et les mariages ont lieu principalement pendant le carnaval.
Cette gravure particulière montre des hommes sur échasses, une calèche avec un clown, un Indien indigène du «nouveau monde», un ours dansant, un homme «montant» un cheval, un médecin essayant de pousser un clyster dans un pauvre patient sans méfiance, un bouffon, une toute petite personne et un homme sonnant de la trompette. - Stock No
